On February 15, 2025, a male driver was killed in a fiery crash following a police pursuit in Calera, Alabama. The incident began when Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) troopers attempted to stop the driver for a traffic violation near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Alabama 70. The driver did not stop, and officers escalated a chase during which, the driver lost control of the vehicle, struck a utility pole, and the car caught fire. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is under investigation by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division.
