On 02/11/2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Officer Jonah Hernandez of the Las Cruces Police Department responded to a trespassing call in the 300 block of South Valley Drive near Amador Avenue in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Upon arrival, Officer Hernandez encountered Armando Silva. During the encounter, Silva attacked Officer Hernandez with a knife, stabbing him multiple times. Officers on scene opened fire, killing Silva. Officer Hernandez died from his injuries. The New Mexico State Police is conducting an independent investigation.
