On 02/17/2025, at approximately 4:30 AM, Columbia County Sheriff's deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by 15-year-old Gordon Carmichael, who did not stop. Officers escalated a chase until he lost control of the vehicle, crashed, and died. He was pronounced dead at the crash site. The incident is under internal self-investigation by the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.
