The deputy initiated a pursuit without activating lights and sirens but soon lost sight of the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the deputy discovered the Tesla had veered off the road, crashed through a fence, struck three large trees, and caught fire in the backyard of a residence in the 7000 block of 128th Street East. The deputy attempted to rescue the 45-year-old male driver by breaking the driver's side window but was forced to retreat due to the intensifying flames. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other individuals were injured, and the fire was contained to the vehicle.
