Justin M. Barbour, 28, began shooting in the parking lot of the Harris Teeter grocery store at 545 Radford Lane in Crozet, Virginia. Barbour fatally shot 43-year-old Peter L. Martin as he exited the store and 68-year-old Diane G. Spangler while she was in her vehicle. An unidentified off-duty federal officer, exiting the store, shot and killed him approximately 20 seconds after the shooting began. Authorities recovered multiple firearms, including an AR-15 rifle, from Barbour and his vehicle. The motive remains under investigation, but initial findings suggest a random act of violence.
