OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On February 24, 2025, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver turned off the lights and drove northbound on Hillcroft Avenue. Police escalated a chase at 80 miles an hour that lasted approximately two minutes when the driver lost control and struck a tree in the 1400 block of South Voss Road. The vehicle caught fire upon impact. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Houston Fire Department. The Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes and Internal Affairs Divisions are investigating the incident, which is being treated as an in-custody death. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
