OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On February 23, 2025, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Kansas City, Kansas, police officers responded to reports of an armed disturbance in the 700 block of Nebraska Avenue. Surveillance footage showed 33-year-old Brian Hilt attempting to damage property to enter an apartment building while armed with a firearm. A fire alarm was activated around 5:00 a.m., prompting the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department to respond. Upon observing the property damage, they contacted police. Two KCKPD officers encountered Hilt in a hallway and fired at him. Hilt was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is conducting an inquiry into the incident.
