On February 23, 2025, at approximately 10:30 PM, Anderson County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a disturbance call on King Street in Anderson, South Carolina. Upon arrival, deputies encountered 55-year-old Lawrence Thomas Devilbiss, who was reportedly armed. During the confrontation, at least one deputy discharged their firearm, striking Devilbiss. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is conducting an inquiry into the incident.
