OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On February 24, 2025, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Houston Police Department officers spotted a vehicle with a stolen license plate near Richmond Avenue and Unity Drive. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver turned off the vehicle's lights and drove northbound on Hillcroft Avenue. Police escalated a chase at 80 miles per hour that lasted approximately two minutes when the driver lost control and struck a tree in the 1400 block of South Voss Road. The vehicle caught fire upon impact. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Houston Fire Department. The Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes and Internal Affairs Divisions are investigating the incident.
