OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 02/25/2025, around 2:15 a.m., IMPD officers responded to a report of a woman assaulted in the 1600 block of East Washington Street, Indianapolis. While assisting the woman, officers observed 31-year-old Adam Javonta Sykes, believed to have an active arrest warrant, leaving a nearby business. When approached, Sykes refused to comply and fled on foot with his hands in his pockets. During the pursuit, an officer deployed a Taser, and subsequently, Sykes was shot. A handgun was found next to Sykes at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the incident.
