On January 14, 2025, 87-year-old John Sorace, a former Nashville assistant police chief, was arrested and charged with reckless homicide following the shooting death of his wife, 84-year-old Joan Sorace, at their home in Rutherford County, Tennessee. While awaiting trial, Sorace was held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center. On February 25, 2025, he was found unresponsive in his cell due to a medical emergency and was subsequently pronounced dead. The investigation into his wife's death was ongoing at the time of his passing.
