On February 27, 2025, Asheville Police Department officers responded to a report of a barricaded individual at a hotel on the 100 block of Hendersonville Road. The individual was reportedly distraught over a domestic dispute and had locked themselves inside a hotel room. Authorities were informed that the person might be armed, prompting a heavy police presence, including a SWAT team. Officers entered the room at 3:06 p.m. and found the individual dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
