On February 27, 2025, around 3 a.m., Harris County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a man damaging gas pumps and acting erratically at a gas station on I-45 North Freeway and West Road. Upon arrival, officers encountered the man, who initially complied by lying on the ground. As deputies attempted to handcuff him, he resisted, leading to a physical altercation. During the struggle, the man gained control of a deputy’s Taser. A female deputy opened fire, shooting him multiple times in the torso. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A male deputy sustained facial injuries and was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The female deputy has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
