On 03/06/2025, Tate County deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver did not stop, and officers escalated a chase. The pursuit continued to the intersection of Highway 305 and Highway 4 in Independence, Mississippi, where the vehicle crashed. Under unclear circumstances, officers opened fire, killing the 19-year-old male. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the incident.
