On 03/04/2025, at approximately 11:40 AM, Mammoth Lakes Police Department officers responded to a disturbance call at the Mono County Library, Mammoth Lakes Branch. Officers encountered a man and, under undisclosed circumstances, shot and killed him. The California Department of Justice has initiated an investigation under Assembly Bill 1506, which mandates state-level review of officer-involved shootings resulting in the death of unarmed civilians. It is currently unknown whether the individual was armed at the time of the incident.
