On 03/04/2025, at approximately 5:05 a.m., Mercedes Smith was walking in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue in Glenview, Illinois, when she was struck by a Cook County Sheriff's Office squad car. She was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she was initially listed in critical condition. Smith succumbed to her injuries on 03/05/2025. The Glenview Police Department, in conjunction with the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force Major Crash Assistance Team, is investigating the incident.
