On 03/12/2025, Monticello police attempted to stop a Kia Soul for a traffic violation on Highway 27 near Darbun Road. The driver did not stop. Police chased him through multiple streets, reaching speeds over 65 mph and running stop signs. The chase ended when the Kia Soul crashed. The passenger, Michael Ardizone, 38, of Cumming, Georgia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was injured and taken to a hospital.
