Police attempted to stop a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro on LA-30 for speeding. The driver, Jeremiah Downing, did not stop. Police escalated a chase into East Baton Rouge Parish. At the intersection of Nicholson Drive and Bluebonnet Boulevard, Downing ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle. His passenger, 22-year-old Hunter LaGrange, was pronounced dead at the scene. Downing was transported to a hospital, where he later died. The driver of the second vehicle sustained serious injuries. The crash caused a fuel tank to ignite, prompting emergency response from fire departments.
