OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
At approximately 1:45 a.m., deputies from the Greenville County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a Honda Accord near Anderson Road and White Horse Road. The driver did not stop, and police escalated a chase. The pursuit was canceled near White Horse Road and Interstate 85. Shortly afterward, authorities were alerted to a fiery crash on I-85 South at Exit 44. The vehicle had veered off the left side of the road while merging and struck a concrete barrier wall, igniting in flames. Cody Isaiah Russell, 20, of Easley, was in the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
