On 03/18/2025, at approximately 11:59 p.m., deputies at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, California, responded to an emergency call from a cell where 37-year-old inmate Elias Angel Rivera was found unresponsive with visible injuries. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to a local hospital, Rivera was pronounced dead at 1:11 a.m. on 03/19/2025. Rivera had been incarcerated since May 2022, following a fatal wrong-way DUI crash on Highway 24 that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old woman. His death is currently being investigated as a homicide by the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
