OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

At approximately 7:04 a.m., Chicago police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 900 block of East 100th Street in the Pullman neighborhood. Officers reported finding 43-year-old Devon L. Smith armed inside a bedroom with a woman. As police attempted to de-escalate the situation, the woman was able to leave the room. Police stated that Smith then pointed a gun toward them, prompting an officer to open fire, striking Smith. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. A weapon was recovered at the scene. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating.
