On March 21, 2025, two St. Louis County Police officers attempted to arrest 38-year-old internist Aleksandr Lanis at his home on Hawkins Bend Drive in Fenton, Missouri, on a warrant for first-degree harassment. During a struggle inside the home, police allege Lanis pulled a gun. Both officers opened fire and shot him. Lanis was pronounced dead at the scene. A gun was recovered. One officer sustained a minor injury. The shooting occurred near the border between St. Louis and Jefferson Counties.
