On March 20, 2025, police attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving in Poinsett County, Arkansas. The driver, identified as 54-year-old Joe Versie of Jonesboro, refused to stop. Officers escalated a chase involving Poinsett County deputies, Harrisburg Police, and Arkansas State Police. The pursuit ended on Interstate 555 near the 3-mile marker when the vehicle came to a stop in the median and caught fire. Police allege Versie remained inside and told officers he had a weapon. When he reached toward the rear doors, officers from ASP, PCSO, and HPD opened fire and killed him.
