Santos Sedano Jr., 46, was shot and killed by South Padre Island police on March 20, 2025, after officers responded to a disturbance call at a hotel on Gulf Boulevard. Sedano, who had active felony warrants, allegedly fled the scene and broke into a nearby condo. Police say he was armed and encountered officers near the stairwell of the building. During the encounter, officers opened fire and killed him. Details about what provoked the shooting were not disclosed. Texas Rangers are investigating.
