On March 23, 2025, deputies with the Johnston County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call from a residence on Chaney Drive, where a woman could be heard in the background asking for help. The male who answered told dispatchers that nothing was wrong. When the first deputy arrived, they reportedly heard what they believed to be a gunshot. Multiple deputies and an armored vehicle responded. Officers entered the home around 11:00 p.m. and found two people dead. Authorities described the incident as an apparent murder-suicide.
