OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On March 22, 2025, staff at the Hudson County Correctional Facility found Derrick Ellis, 63, unresponsive in his cell in the medical unit at approximately 12:15 p.m. Officers and onsite medical personnel transported him to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 1:30 p.m. The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
