OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On March 21, 2025, around 3:34 p.m., Kansas Highway Patrol troopers attempted a traffic stop on Daijon Estell, 24, to serve a warrant on Interstate 70 near the 7th Street exit in Kansas City, Kansas. Estell refused to exit the vehicle and pulled out a handgun. As troopers gave commands, he shot himself in the head. No officers discharged their weapons. A young child was found in the vehicle unharmed and was safely reunited with family. Estell was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:43 p.m. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.
