On March 27, 2025, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Kentucky State Police (KSP) responded to a call for assistance from the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office regarding a disturbance at a mobile home park on 2nd Street in Warsaw, Kentucky. Upon arrival, officers encountered 54-year-old James E. Walter, who was reportedly firing a gun into the air outside his residence. To ensure the safety of residents, the mobile home park was evacuated. Walter continued to discharge his firearm inside his home and made verbal threats toward law enforcement officers. Despite attempts to deescalate the situation through negotiation, Walter opened his door and displayed a firearm, prompting members of the KSP Special Response Team to engage him, resulting in fatal injuries. No officers were injured during the incident. The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is conducting an ongoing investigation into the shooting.
