OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Christian Black, a 25-year-old male from Zanesville, Ohio, was arrested by Englewood Police and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on March 23, 2025. He was charged with receiving stolen property and obstructing official business. On March 24, correctional staff found Black unresponsive in his cell. Upon attempting to assist him, Black reportedly became combative, leading to the use of force, including a taser and pepper spray, to subdue him. Later, Black placed in a restraint chair. He subsequently went into cardiac arrest, was transported to a hospital, and was pronounced dead on March 26. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has requested an independent investigation by the Dayton Police Department. Black's family has also initiated an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
