The driver did not stop and lost control of the vehicle. As detectives moved to block the vehicle and ordered him to exit, the man allegedly accelerated toward officers. A detective opened fire, striking the driver, who died at the scene. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.

On 09/30/2025, police pursued a vehicle in Owasso, Oklahoma. The chase crossed into Kansas and continued into Coffeyville. At the intersection of Patterson Boulevard and Eighth Street, the fleeing vehicle ran a red light and struck a car carrying two sisters. Serafina L. O’Connell, 15, was critically injured and later died from her injuries. Her 17-year-old sister sustained minor injuries. The reason for the fatal chase was retail shoplifting, not an emergency.

On 09/29/2025, a 16-year-old driver in a stolen Chevrolet truck was pursued by police through downtown Lufkin. The chase ended violently at the intersection of Third Street and Frank Street when the truck crashed into a Ford Explorer driven by Morgan Wright, 40. Wright suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to a Tyler hospital, where she died later that evening. Wright was a speech pathologist at Lufkin ISD and the wife of Wells ISD superintendent Friday Wright. She is survived by her husband and two young children.

On 09/29/2025 around 3:07 a.m., Albuquerque police responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment on Ceja Vista Road SW. After about 30 minutes, officers forced entry when they heard distress calls. Through a partially opened door, they observed Adrian Torres, 39, striking a woman in the head with a hammer. An officer fired, fatally wounding Torres. The woman was transported to a hospital with head injuries.

On 09/29/2025, Gluckstadt police and Mississippi Highway Patrol pursued a stolen silver Ford Escape traveling northbound on Interstate 55. Near mile marker 113, officers attempted a stop, but the driver refused to stop. Police escalated a chase that ended just before Exit 119 when the SUV left the roadway and struck a signage pole. Both occupants were ejected. The passenger died at the scene, and the driver died en route to Merit Health Canton hospital. A Gluckstadt officer was also involved in a separate crash while avoiding roadway debris but was not injured. The Mississippi Highway Patrol Accident Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation.
