OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On April 17, 2025, Paulding County deputies responded to a welfare check at a residence on Hemlock Glen in Dallas, Georgia. The call was initiated after Jameel Johnson's mother reported to her employer that her son was acting erratically; the employer then contacted 911, noting the presence of firearms in the home. Upon arrival, deputies were led to Johnson's bedroom, where he was lying in bed. Johnson opened fire with a handgun, striking Deputy Brice Mattick in the shoulder. Deputies returned fire, fatally shooting Johnson. Deputy Mattick was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and has since been released. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into the incident.
