OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On April 17, 2025, Robert Smith, 35, of Cookeville, Tennessee, was wanted for aggravated assault out of Nashville. He allegedly kidnapped a woman and her child in Atlanta, demanding she drive him to Nashville at gunpoint. They stopped at a Buc-ee’s in Calhoun, Georgia, where the woman sought help inside the store. When Calhoun police arrived, Smith fired at officers and carjacked a customer’s vehicle, fleeing north on I-75. During the pursuit, he fired at deputies before fatally shooting himself. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the case.
