OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
Chula Vista police responded around 5:41 a.m. to a family disturbance involving a man with access to multiple firearms. Several relatives had fled the home and were hiding outside. The 56-year-old man exited the home with his hands in his pockets, dropped a firearm on the steps, and sat down with the gun in his lap. He ignored repeated commands to put his hands up. Officers fired a beanbag round, causing him to fall and drop the weapon, but he picked it up and pointed it at police. Three officers opened fire and shot him. He was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead.
