On April 19, 2025, deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office assisted the Fayetteville Police Department in serving a warrant at Fayette Hills Apartments. When officers arrived, the man fled into his apartment, then emerged wielding a machete. He swung the weapon at officers, striking one. Officers deployed a taser, which was unsuccessful. The man continued advancing with the machete, and deputies opened fire, killing him. The West Virginia State Police are conducting an investigation. The man's name has not been released.
