On April 21, 2025, deputies from the Broward Sheriff's Office responded to multiple 911 calls about a woman with knives outside a Walgreens at 1005 South Federal Highway in Deerfield Beach. Deputies encountered a 60-year-old woman reportedly swinging two large knives. One deputy gave commands to drop the weapons. The woman continued advancing and the deputy opened fire and killed her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating
