OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On April 28, 2025, Jerome Cooper, 51, allegedly shot a 32-year-old man in the abdomen during a carjacking at a Public Storage facility near G Street and East Hunting Park Avenue in Philadelphia. A 29-year-old witness reportedly exchanged gunfire with Cooper during the incident.
Cooper fled in the victim's Toyota Camry, leading police on a high-speed chase through multiple districts. During the pursuit, Cooper allegedly fired at officers, with evidence of a fired cartridge casing found on the 700 block of East Cheltenham Avenue.
The chase concluded when Cooper's vehicle crashed into a tree in a grassy median at Roosevelt Boulevard and Langdon Street in the city's Summerdale section. As Cooper exited the vehicle armed, seven officers discharged their weapons, striking him multiple times. He was transported to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The 32-year-old shooting victim was hospitalized in stable condition. The involvement of the 29-year-old witness is under investigation.
