OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On April 26, 2025, a 38-year-old man led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed pursuit from San Clemente to the San Ysidro Port of Entry. After officers attempted a traffic stop on the 2021 Chevrolet Colorado he was driving, the man fled southbound. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers attempted a second stop at the border. During the stop, the driver suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The man's identity has not been released, and the motive behind the pursuit remains unclear.
