OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On April 28, 2025, at approximately 5:50 p.m., South San Francisco police officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a man armed with a gun on the 300 block of Arroyo Drive. Upon arrival, officers observed 60-year-old Brian Montana firing into a neighbor's residence. Montana then took cover behind parked vehicles and landscaping in the driveway, engaging in a 25-minute shootout with officers using a handgun, shotgun, and rifle. Officers returned fire, striking Montana. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A neighbor sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. No officers were injured. The two officers who discharged their weapons have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
