OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 05/08/2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a Castro County Sheriff's Office deputy responded to a report of a person trespassing on a residential property located on Farm-to-Market Road 1055. Upon locating the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Lierme Reyes, an exchange of gunfire occurred between Reyes and the deputy. Both individuals sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Reyes died from his injuries at the hospital. The deputy's injuries were non-life-threatening, and he is currently recovering. The deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is being conducted by the Texas Rangers.
