On 05/05/2025, around 2:50 a.m., Chicago Police responded to a report of a man armed with a knife at the Grand Regency of Jackson Park assisted-living facility at 1448 East 75th Street. The man confronted officers while armed with a knife. Tasers were deployed but failed. When the man advanced toward them, officers opened fire and killed him. A knife was recovered near his body. His name has not been released. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative duties.
