The 46-year-old inmate who died at the Bexar County Jail on May 1, 2025, has been identified as Francisco Bazan. His death is being investigated as a homicide. According to reports, Bazan was found unresponsive in his cell around 2:45 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 3:14 a.m. The Bexar County Medical Examiner determined that he died from blunt force trauma and internal bleeding, including multiple rib fractures and a punctured spleen. Investigators believe he bled out over several hours.A Bexar County detention officer, Clemente Lopez Jr., 20, has been charged with murder in connection with Bazan's death. Lopez is accused of facilitating the assault by opening Bazan's cell door, allowing four inmates—Rudy Bueno, Gilbert Suarez, Rodrigo Martinez III, and Gabriel Benjamin Garcia—to enter and attack Bazan over a $40 debt. All four inmates have been charged with first-degree murder.
