On May 7, 2025, at approximately 9:23 p.m., Broward Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a 911 call reporting an armed woman pointing a gun at someone near 2060 N.E. Second Street in Deerfield Beach. Deputies located 28-year-old Santrina Lester inside a vehicle. Despite verbal commands to disarm, Lester produced a firearm. Multiple deputies opened fire, striking Lester. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported her to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced dead. A firearm was recovered at the scene. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, and the involved deputies have been placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
