OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On May 8, 2025, around 4:30 a.m., a confrontation between two groups escalated into gunfire in the 13800 block of Crosshaven Drive in Houston's Cloverleaf neighborhood. Two teenagers, including 17-year-old Ashton La’Van, reportedly jumped into the backyard of an off-duty Jacinto City Police Department officer. The officer, upon hearing the gunfire, discharged his weapon, striking both teens. Ashton La’Van was transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead. The second teen, a 16-year-old, was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle; his condition remains unknown. It is currently unclear whether the injuries sustained by the teens were from the initial altercation or from the officer's gunfire. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, and the officer involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
