OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On May 7, 2025, Florence County Sheriff's deputies responded to a residence on the 3500 block of Savannah Grove Road in Effingham following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they encountered a barricade situation involving a man holding two individuals hostage. After several hours of negotiations, the suspect released the hostages, who were unharmed. When deputies attempted to enter the home to apprehend the suspect, he took his own life. The identities of the man and hostages have not been disclosed.
