OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On May 7, 2025, at approximately 9:15 p.m., a Poulsbo Police Department officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop near Viking Way and Nordic Cove Lane. The driver failed to yield. Police escalated a chase. After the vehicle came to a stop, officers approached the driver, who allegedly had a large knife. The individual refused to comply with commands and continued to pose a lethal threat. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and employed non-lethal options, which were unsuccessful. Subsequently, officers discharged their firearms, resulting in the individual's death. No officers or deputies were injured during the incident. The Washington State Office of Independent Investigations is conducting an investigation into the shooting.
