OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On May 5, 2025, at approximately 2:50 a.m., Chicago police officers responded to reports of a man armed with a knife threatening residents at the Grand Regency of Jackson Park, an assisted-living facility in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers located the individual in his fifth-floor unit. Police fired a Taser and allege that the man advanced toward officers while still armed. Police opened fire, killing him. A knife was recovered nearby. Later that morning, at approximately 6:30 a.m., 58-year-old Keith Harding was found deceased in another unit on the same floor, having suffered cuts to his arm and neck. Police believe the man shot by officers was responsible for Harding's death. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident.
