OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On May 6, 2025, at approximately 12:01 p.m., an Alabama State Trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2013 Infiniti G37 on Alabama Highway 51 in Bullock County. The driver, 33-year-old Jemmie Earl Hicks Jr. of Midway, refused to stop, leading to a pursuit. The chase ended on Bullock County Road 106 near Flower Garden Road, where Hicks exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. During the foot pursuit, a deadly force encounter occurred between Hicks and the trooper. Hicks was shot during the confrontation, and the trooper immediately rendered first aid. However, Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation, and findings will be turned over to the Bullock County District Attorney’s Office.
