On May 4, 2025, Racine police attempted to arrest a man connected to a domestic violence assault earlier that day. Officers approached the man in the 900 block of 17th Street, but he fled in a vehicle and crashed shortly afterward. As he exited the vehicle, police say the man raised a handgun. An officer opened fire, killing him. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the incident. The involved officer has been placed on administrative leave.
