On May 4, 2025, at approximately 11:12 p.m., Racine police officers attempted to arrest a man wanted for a violent domestic abuse assault reported earlier that day. When officers approached him in the 900 block of 17th Street, the man fled in a vehicle and crashed nearby. After the crash, he exited the vehicle and raised a handgun, prompting an officer to open fire. The man was shot and died at the scene. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the case, and the officer has been placed on administrative leave.
