On May 5, 2025, Kingsport police responded around 8:30 p.m. to reports of an armed, intoxicated man threatening to harm himself at Crockett Ridge Golf Course. Officers located 27-year-old Cody Alexander Burke armed with a handgun. Police engaged Burkein a shootout, killing him. He died at the golf course. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.
